Crystal

Veterinary Assistant

Northeast Kansas is the only place Crystal has ever called home. As a child, the opportunities to learn love and respect for animals came to her through her parent’s farm. Convinced the farm held every opportunity a person could wish for, she tried to convince her dad to buy an elephant that had been offered up in the want ads. Her pitch was, “We put up the hay, so she won’t cost us anything to keep her.” You can see why she never got to brag about owning a pachyderm. Dr. Katzer and Crystal married 36 years ago. She worked in his dental practice in some capacity or another for 31 years. They raised two children, who are also physicians. Neither child chose dentistry, but the desire to take care of others, innate. She delights in an entertaining nickname, a good laugh, and irony in a well told story. Art,(Washburn University, BFA) Music, (singing to her pets) and Gardening (never ending) keep her mind and body both motivated and moving. Her passions are taking care of my family, friends and animals. Favorite movie: Big Fish; Favorite book: Whisper from the Woods; Favorite thing: Laughing with someone. After selling the practice in 2017, she stayed on until spring of 2020. She has found it is too early to fully retire. So, the opportunity to work at Westport Animal Clinic seems to be a good fit, with a chance to learn and make new friends, furry and otherwise.
